Astana Summit on Syria Slated for Late November

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Kazakhstan announced on Monday that it is going to host a new round of Astana talks about Syria later this month.

The 19th round of high-level talks of the Astana format summit on the peaceful settlement in Syria will be held in Kazakhstan, Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman Aibek Smadiyarov said on Monday.

"It will take place in late November," Smadiyarov told a press briefing, Sputnik reported.

The Astana talks on Syria were initiated in 2017 with Iran, Russia and Turkey acting as the guarantor states in order to bring a solution to the Syrian crisis.

The talks that have included a number of other countries with the status of "observers" have focused on plans to address several issues such as the current situation in Syria, the delivery of humanitarian aid, the resumption of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee in Geneva, the exchange of prisoners, the release of hostages, as well as the search for missing persons.
