Iran-India Ties to Reinforce Multilateralism: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister highlighted the positive effects of cooperation between Iran and India on the promotion of multilateralism at the international level.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri, who is visiting India as part of political consultations between the two countries, held talks with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on Wednesday.

In the gathering, the Iranian diplomat said close cooperation between Iran and India, specifically in regional and international arenas, would strengthen the infrastructures for multilateralism in the international system.

Hailing the historical bonds between the two Asian countries as a perfect basis for the expansion of political, economic and security relations, Baqeri expressed Tehran’s readiness to boost bilateral and regional cooperation with New Delhi.

He also stressed the need to take advantage of the capacities of the two countries to fulfill the interests of the two nations and combat common threats.

For his part, Jaishankar emphasized the importance of regular consultations between the two states, voicing India’s preparedness to promote cooperation with Iran in various fields.

The senior Indian diplomat also called for efforts to expedite the implementation of Indian-funded projects in Iran’s southeastern port city of Chabahar.
