IAEA Chief Due in Iran in Coming Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hailing the “constructive and promising” talks between the teams from Iran and the UN nuclear agency, an Iranian spokesperson said Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi is going to visit Tehran within the next few days.

Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi announced on Monday that delegations from Iran and the UN nuclear agency, led by IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Safeguards Massimo Aparo, have held “constructive and promising” negotiations during the past days.

He noted that Grossi is scheduled to visit Iran in the coming days at the formal invitation of Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Mohammad Eslami.

Kamalvandi expressed hope that the upcoming visit would pave the way for brighter vistas for closer cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.

Last week, Eslami said the IAEA’s officials had visited Tehran to hold negotiations, conduct inspections and resolve uncertainties caused by a recent misinterpreted report.

Eslami underlined that Iran maintains its relations with the IAEA within the framework of the Safeguards Agreement.

He also noted that Iran is working in interaction and coordination with the IAEA and keeps trying to prevent the creation of new ambiguities in the course of cooperation with the UN nuclear agency.
