Iran Encourages Swift Formation of Lebanese Government, Emphasizes Regional Stability
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a recent meeting with Lebanese officials, Seyed Kamal Kharrazi, Head of Iran’s Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, commended Lebanon for its security and strong economy, highlighting its potential to play a constructive role in the region.
Kharrazi, who formerly served as an Iranian foreign minister, arrived in Lebanon after a visit to Syria and met with Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib on Wednesday morning.
During the meeting, the two officials discussed international and regional issues, as well as the political situation in Lebanon.
The Lebanese top diplomat welcomed the recent agreements between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying that such developments could lead to greater stability and positive changes in the region.
He elaborated on Iran's regional policies, stating that the Islamic Republic seeks to establish stability and security in the region and will work towards creating an ideal environment for the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
Kharrazi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran encourages all political factions in Lebanon to expedite the government formation process.
He underlined Iran's support for the formation of a strong and capable government in Lebanon within existing political structures, without any foreign interference and based on the will and desire of the Lebanese people.
He continued his meetings with high-ranking Lebanese officials in Beirut and held talks with Nabih Berri, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament.
During the meeting, he expressed his belief that Lebanon is secure and economically strong, capable of playing a constructive role in the region.
The Iranian official encouraged all political movements in Lebanon to accelerate the process of forming a government, stating that Iran supports the formation of a government as soon as possible.
Kharrazi pledged Iran's commitment to creating a desirable environment for the peaceful resolution of issues in the region.
Berri, for his part, elaborated on the latest developments in Lebanon's political situation and the election of the president, emphasizing that the formation of a government can only be achieved through constructive dialogue among Lebanese parties.
As Speaker of Parliament, he pledged to continue his efforts to bring all parties closer together.
