Tehran, Damascus Eye Closer Economic Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Syria are determined to expand their cooperation in the trade and economic fields as an Iranian minister has traveled to Damascus.

Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash arrived in Damascus on Tuesday at the head of a high-ranking delegation aimed at expanding economic relations between the two countries and also facilitating the banking and economic ties.

Bazrpash is scheduled to meet and hold talk with the Syrian minister of foreign trade and economy and other high-ranking officials of the Arab country to cement mutual ties in economic field in particular.

In addition, the visiting Iranian minister will hold expert-level meetings with the Iranian and Syrian private sector activists.

Developing sea-based economy, facilitating the banking transactions, and reducing free trade tariffs will be among the main topics of discussion between senior officials of the two countries.

During his stay in Damascus, Bazrbash will weigh plans for the development of air transport, resumption of the presence of Iranian pilgrims in Syria, setting up a trilateral rail line between Iran, Iraq and Syria, developing cooperation between Tehran and Damascus in the fields of agriculture, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), tourism, environment, and defense, as well as strengthening investment cooperation between the two countries.
