Iran, FAO to Launch Joint Project on Sustainable Production

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official with Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture on Saturday announced the launch of a joint project between the ministry and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on sustainable production.

Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture for Basic Products and Grains Affairs Faramak Aziz Karimi made the announcement on the sidelines of the First National Conference of the joint project between the two sides, adding that this prestigious conference is being held in cooperation with the Iran Dryland Agricultural Research Institute (DARI) and in line with increasing productivity and actualizing the potential of dryland agricultural production in Iran’s Maragheh city.

He went on to say that the Iran-FAO joint project has been implemented since the beginning of the Farming Year with the aim of increasing production sustainability on drylands of the country in four provinces of East Azarbaijan, Ardabil, Hamedfan and Kurdistan.

Turning to the 20 percent reduction in rainfalls in the country this year, Aziz Karimi pointed out that, despite the reduced rainfalls, production share can be increased using the latest updates of domestic and foreign researchers.
