Iran’s FM Hails Positive Outcome of Four-Party Meeting in Moscow

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian described a quadrilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria and Turkey in Moscow as positive.

Speaking to reporters before leaving the Russian capital for Tehran, Amirabdollahian said the meeting was a step forward in helping to bring the views of Turkey and Syria closer together.

The top diplomat noted that on the sidelines of the meeting, he also held talks with his Russian, Turkish and Syrian counterparts on bilateral ties and pursuing the agreements reached on development of trade and economic cooperation.

He said good progress has been made in Iran’s relations with Russian and Turkey, especially over the past year and the volume of trade exchanges with the two countries is showing a rising and promising trend.

The quadrilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria and Turkey was held in Moscow on Wednesday.

The agenda included discussions on normalizing relations between Turkey and Syria, addressing humanitarian issues, combating terrorism, advancing the political process, and facilitating the return of refugees. Bilateral meetings were also held.

Relations between Ankara and Damascus deteriorated in 2011 when the Syrian conflict started, coinciding with an influx of Syrian refugees into Turkey. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were severed then.
