Iran to Discuss INSTC in SPIEF


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Republic of Iran will discuss the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) at the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

During a visit by Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash to St. Petersburg for participating in the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), the completion of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) will be put at the top of the agenda for negotiations.

Upon his arrival at Saint Petersburg Airport on Thursday, Bazrpash said, “We are pursuing and agreeing in the field of international corridors and all transportation sectors with a focus on the INSTC.”

Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings will be held between senior transport officials of the two countries of Iran and Russia in the fields of corridor, transit, port and air network as well as all the transportation sector, he added.

Given the geographical location of Iran and its connection to the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman, many countries have shown their keenness to establish cooperation with Iran in this field, the roads minister continued.

According to the scheduled program, Iran's roads minister will meet the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia for Construction and Regional Development, and Russian Minister of Transport to discuss bilateral ties. 

The SPIEF Investment & Business Expo exhibition will be held as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The exhibition is a platform for constructive dialogue, searching for solutions, consolidating efforts and fostering the exchange of experience among the Forum participants.

St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) has been held annually since 1997 and is a major business event in the world. Over the past 25 years, the forum has cemented its status as a leading international event focusing on key issues on the global economic agenda.

Last month, Iran and Russia signed an agreement for financing the construction of the Rasht-Astara Railway along the INSTC through a video-conference ceremony attended by the presidents of the two countries.
