Iran, Uzbekistan Ink MoU to Strengthen Transit, Transportation Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of transportation and transit cooperation.

Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash and Transport Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Ilkhom Makhkamov inked the MoU on Monday in the presence of presidents of the two countries with the aim of bolstering bilateral cooperation in the fields of transit and transportation.

Strengthening principles of transportation and transit cooperation in joint international transportation corridors, improving transit routes between the two countries, developing road and rail transportation, facilitating connection of Iran to the Central Asian states through Uzbekistan territory, and promoting, streamlining and simplifying all transportation processes between the two countries are among the goals of the document. 

Meanwhile, the two sides emphasized the unification of international transportation processes with each other.

Development of transit routes between Iran and Uzbekistan, especially with combined transportation and operationalization of the commercialization program of the East-West Corridor and crossing southern ports of Iran to Central Asia and vice versa were also discussed by the two ministers.

In addition, it was decided that Uzbekistan Railways should make the necessary efforts to increase its rail load through Iran to third-party countries.

Upon signing and sealing MoU, the Iranian and Uzbek transport ministers announced their readiness to increase the number of direct flights, based on which, the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) voiced its readiness to hold training courses in this regard.
