UAE, Qatar to Reopen Embassies on Monday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The UAE government has officially announced the reopening of its embassy in Doha on Monday, while Qatar's embassy in Abu Dhabi and consulate in Dubai will also resume their operations.

The decision was disclosed on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website of the UAE, stating that the reopening of the embassies aligns with the Al Ula agreement and the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen their relations. The embassies are set to reopen on Monday.

"The two sides affirm that this step comes as an embodiment of the will of the leaderships of the two countries," stated the the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a conversation with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, where they expressed mutual congratulations on the resumption of work in the embassies, according to the state news agency Wam.

The UAE and Qatar have been actively working towards reopening their embassies as part of the broader effort to reestablish ties, following the resolution of the rift two years ago through the 2021 Al Ula agreement.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, and Egypt severed diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and interfering in the affairs of regional states, allegations that Doha consistently denied.

The dispute finally came to an end in 2021 when Qatar, along with other Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) states, joined Saudi Arabia in unveiling the Al Ula declaration, aimed at forging a "unified and geostrategic bloc" to address common challenges. Saudi Arabia and Egypt were the first to appoint ambassadors to Doha, and Bahrain announced in April that it would restore ties, including travel links.
