Iran’s Steel Production Ranking Improves for 2nd Consecutive Month This Year

Producing 3.3 million tons of steel in May 2023, Iran stood at the seventh place in the global ranking and this is for the second month in a row that Iran’s ranking has improved among the world’s steelmakers.

Iran produced 3.3 million tons of steel in May 2023, registering an 8.8 percent growth compared to the same period last year, the World Steel Association (WSA) reported on Monday.

This is while six countries out of the top 10 steel producers in the world have faced a production decline in May 2023.

According to the report, Iran, India, Russia and Germany witnessed steel production growth in this period.

Also, Iran and Russia accounted for the maximum steel production hike in May 2023 while neighboring Turkey registered a steel production slump in this period.

Based on the WSA’s report, Iran ranked 10th in February 2021 among the world’s largest steel producers but the country stood at 8th and 7th ranks in April and May 2023 respectively.
