Iran’s Annual Ethane Output to Reach 5 Million Tons: NIGC Chief
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chief executive of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said the country’s annual ethane production will hit five million tons in the near future.
Addressing a ceremony on Monday to sign a memorandum of understanding for increasing ethane extraction from nine refineries in the South Pars Gas Field, Majid Chegeni added the country’s annual ethane production capacity is 7.2 million tons and around 4.2 million tons are currently produced per year and delivered to petrochemical complexes.
The country would witness an ethane surplus by 2027, NIGC CEO predicted, adding “We would face a lack of ethane to feed complexes as of that year, as Kian, Hormoz Persian Gulf, Parsian Sepehr, and Siraf Energy petrochemical projects are being implemented."
Ethane is among the strategic products of South Pars Gas Company (SPGC).
The daily ethane production capacity of 13 refineries stands at 13,500 tons, Chegeni emphasized.
Morvarid, Kavian, and Jam petrochemical complexes are among the ethane consumers, he added.
