Iran Calls for Closer Political, Economic Ties with Pakistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Warning about hostile plots to disrupt relations among regional countries, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stressed the need to strengthen mutual and multilateral cooperation with Pakistan and stimulate economic prosperity along the common border.
A top priority in Iran’s foreign policy is to expand relations with the Muslim, neighboring and like-minded countries, Raisi said at a meeting with Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Major General Asim Munir, held in Tehran on Sunday.
The president noted that Iran pursues a strategy to turn the security-oriented border with Pakistan into safe and economic-oriented frontiers, calling for the promotion of border markets and closer energy cooperation to that end.
He also cautioned against the enemies’ attempts at disrupting relations among regional states, stressing the need to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation, accelerate the implementation of bilateral agreements, and broaden the political, economic and trade interaction between the two neighbors.
For his part, the top Pakistani general lauded Iran’s policy of stronger ties with its neighbors, including Iran, describing it as a valuable opportunity for the Muslim world.
Highlighting the potential for trade exchanges along the common border, General Munir said closer economic ties will consequently improve security.
The Pakistani minister also pointed to the agreements on tightening security at the common border, saying the efforts are focused on expediting plans to ensure sustainable security.
