Eleven Killed in Suspected Arson Attack at Mexican Border City Bar

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Authorities in the state of Sonora reported that eleven people lost their lives in a suspected arson attack at a bar in the northern Mexican border city of San Luis Rio Colorado.

The tragic incident occurred after an expelled patron, believed to be a young male who was highly intoxicated, set the bar ablaze with a Molotov cocktail in the early hours of Saturday. The suspect had been ejected from the establishment earlier for being disrespectful to women, according to Reuters.

The state prosecutors stated that the assailant returned to the bar and targeted its doors with the Molotov cocktail. Sonora, which shares a lengthy border with Arizona, saw this horrifying act unfold, resulting in the deaths of four women, including a likely dual Mexican-US citizen, and a 17-year-old victim. Additionally, four others were being treated for injuries at local hospitals.

At a press conference, Gustavo Romulo Salas, the state attorney general, provided these distressing details. However, a glimmer of relief came as Santos Gonzalez, the mayor of San Luis Rio Colorado, tweeted that the suspect had been apprehended by the police on Saturday afternoon.
