Iran Proposes Ways to Boost Trade with Pakistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign minister of Iran put forward a number of suggestions for the promotion of economic and trade cooperation with Pakistan in accordance with international law.

The Iranian foreign minister held a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during an official visit to Islamabad on Thursday evening.

In the gathering, also attended by the foreign minister of Pakistan, Amirabdollahian briefed the Pakistani premier on the negotiations between delegations from the two states on the political, economic, trade, security and border issues

Pointing to the agreements about banking activities, barter system and gas transfer pipelines, Amirabdollahian reaffirmed Iran’s determination to carry out the bilateral deals with Pakistan.

He further proposed a number of ways to promote the economic and trade cooperation between the two neighbors within the framework of the international law.

For his part, Prime Minister Sharif hailed the Iranian delegation’s “timely” visit to Pakistan.

He also invited Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to pay a visit to Pakistan, hoping that the Iranian president would be the first head of state to visit his country after the developments surrounding elections in Pakistan.

The two officials also talked about a series of regional and international issues, including the latest developments in Afghanistan.
