Iran, Japan Discuss Ukraine War
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Japan talked about a broad range of regional and international issues at a meeting in Tokyo, including the efforts to broker peace in Ukraine.
In their meeting in Tokyo on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi discussed the crisis in Ukraine and ways to ensure stability and security in West Asia and Afghanistan.
Reiterating Iran’s principled policy towards the crisis in Ukraine and its emphasis on a political solution to the war, Amirabdollahian stressed the need for the international community to support such an approach.
On the ties between Iran and Japan, he called for plans to reorganize the relations and formulate a road map to long-term cooperation.
The foreign minister also expressed Iran’s readiness to hold consultations with Japan within the framework of the cooperation council and proceed with talks between the Foreign Ministry officials of the two states.
For his part, the Japanese foreign minister highlighted the significance of constant dialogue and cooperation with Iran.
Yoshimasa also expounded on Japan’s views about the developments in the Persian Gulf region, the crisis in Ukraine, the interaction between Tehran and Tokyo, and issues relating to Afghanistan.
The two senior diplomats also talked about the negotiations on the removal of anti-Iran sanctions and the course of cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency in accordance with the Safeguards Agreements.
