IRGC Releases Images of Encounter with US Helicopter Carrier
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy released footage from a recent confrontation between its speedboats and an American helicopter carrier in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the 24th assembly of the IRGC commanders in Tehran on Saturday, the IRGC Navy presented images of a recent event during which its forces monitored a US warship in the Strait of Hormuz and forced it to heed Iran’s orders.
IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said choppers flew off the US helicopter carrier's flight deck, but were forced to land shortly afterwards when the IRGC forces controlling the Strait of Hormuz gave a warning and the Zolfaqar flotilla deployed vessels to the scene.
He said it was the first time the US naval forces entered the Persian Gulf after about 22 months.
The encounter between the IRGC’s speedboats and the US helicopter carrier occurred on August 17.
The IRGC Navy chief underlined in the conference that Iran and other Persian Gulf neighbors are capable of ensuring regional security without the presence of outsiders.
He added that the IRGC Navy’s success in monitoring the maritime movements in the Persian Gulf and its vigilance against the threats proves that the Iranian forces will never allow the enemies to upset security in the strategic regions of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
