Iran Vows to Vigorously Pursue Detained Photojournalist's Release

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanani underlined the ministry's determined efforts to secure the release of a Tasnim News Agency photographer detained by the Taliban.

"After receiving pertinent information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs promptly launched its investigation in coordination with Afghan authorities and is fervently pursuing his release," the spokesperson said in response to a question by Tasnim regarding the release of Mohammad Hossein Velayati, the aforementioned Photojournalist, by the Taliban.

Previously, Hassan Kazemi-Qomi, Iran's Ambassador to Kabul and the Special Envoy of the President for Afghan Affairs, said the country is resolutely monitoring the situation.

“A short while ago, I engaged in discussions with officials in Kabul and their intelligence agencies. I was informed that they are actively pursuing this issue, and, God willing, a resolution will be achieved soon,” Qomi added.

Mohammad Hossein Velayati, who had legally entered Afghanistan through an air border and had spent ten days in Kabul for a non-business visit, was apprehended without a clear explanation upon his return at Kabul Airport on Sunday.
