Iran, Iraq Move to Expand Transport Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Iraq stressed the need to promote cooperation between the two neighbors in the field of transportation.

In a Friday meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Minister of Commerce Sattar Jabar Al-Jabri, Head of Iran’s Roads Maintenance and Transportation Organization Dariush Amani emphasized the need for closer trade and transport cooperation between the two countries.

Lauding Iraq for hosting Iranian pilgrims during the Arbaeen season, Amani said the return of millions of Iranian pilgrims in full security is a solid evidence for constructive cooperation between the two nations.

The development of international cooperation with Iraq is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, he said, adding that his organization is ready to share experiences and technical know-how with neighboring Iraq in the fields of repair and maintenance of roads, inter-road installations, as well as smart and intelligent systems.

Amani also expressed hope that Iraq’s accession to the International TIR Convention and the existing capacities of the two countries would increase the volume of trade and economic exchanges between the two countries.

The Iraqi deputy minister, for his part, pointed to the results of a meeting of Iran-Iraq International Road Convention Commission, held in 2022.

Al-Jabri also expressed hope that provisions of bilateral agreements would be concluded and result in the enhancement of bilateral trade and transport relations.
