Iranian Greco-Roman Wrestler Saravi Takes Gold at Hangzhou

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Mohammad Hadi Saravi claimed a gold medal in wrestling in the 2022 Asian Games on Thursday.

He defeated Uzbekistan’s Rustam Assakalov 6-3 in the men’s Greco-Roman 97kg and beat Kyrgyzstan’s Uzur Dzhuzupbekov 3-1 and Kazakhstan’s Islam Umayev 8-0 to book his place in the final.

Saravai defeated China’s Yiming Li 5-1 in the final bout.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
