IRICA, IRU Officials Discuss How to Boost Transit Volume via Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) and the secretary general of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) explored avenues for increasing the volume of transit via Iran.

In a joint meeting held Thursday on the sidelines of the 81st session of TIR Commission in Geneva, Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Mohammad Rezvanifar and the secretary general of IRU, Umberto de Pretto, discussed the way for enhancing the volume of transit via Iran.

They also discussed how to settle the existing problems facing transit between Iran and the neighboring states, and also follow up measures to increase the volume of transit via Iranian soil were of the other issues discussed at this meeting.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed that IRICA host the secretary general and his visit to the transport equipment and infrastructures of Iran in the fields of customs and transit.

The Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR Convention) is a multilateral treaty that was concluded at Geneva on November 14, 1975 to simplify and harmonize the administrative formalities of international road transport.

The TIR Convention establishes an international customs transit system with maximum facility to move goods.
