Iran Praises Victory for Democracy in Ecuador Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Foreign Ministry of Iran lauded the high turnout of Ecuadorians in the recent presidential election as a victory for democracy in the South American nation.

In a statement on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said the high turnout of voters in Ecuador’s presidential polls and the “free and successful” election marked democracy’s victory and success in the Latin American nation.

He also congratulated the Ecuadorian people, government and president-elect on their triumph.

Daniel Noboa, 35, became the youngest president in Ecuador's history after winning the run-off on October 15.

The voter turnout was 82.94%.

While presidential terms in Ecuador are normally four years long, this was an early election triggered by the dissolution of parliament by outgoing President Guillermo Lasso.
