Escalation of Gaza Crisis Will Cause Expansion of War, Iran’s FM Warns

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign minister warned that escalation of the aggression against civilians in Gaza will cause the expansion of the war.

Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein exchanged views over the current developments in Palestine and the genocide in Gaza during a telephone conversation on Saturday evening.

Amirabdollahian referred to the latest diplomatic moves and consultations on part of the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing the continuation of the war crimes by the Zionist regime and the mass killing of civilians, especially women and children, as well as the huge military support given by the United States to the Zionist regime as the main cause of the escalation of the current crisis.

He stressed that the escalation of the war against civilians in Gaza will inevitably lead to the expansion of the war, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

The Iraqi foreign minister, for his part, said during the telephone conversation that all Muslim countries should take action in concert to support the Palestinian people.

He called for an immediate stop to attacks on Palestinians and prevention of the spillover of the war into other parts of the region.

Israel has been bombing Gaza since October 7, when the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm in the occupied territories.

The operation was carried out in response to the Israeli regime’s intensified crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

Figures released on Saturday showed that the number of civilians killed in Israeli assaults on Gaza since October 7 had reached 9,488, including 3,900 children.
