Azerbaijan Highlights Futility of Foreign Attempts to Sour Ties with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said the attempts by certain outsiders to disrupt the relations between his country and Iran will get nowhere.

In a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, held on the sidelines of the ECO summit in Uzbekistan on Thursday, the Azeri leader said the determination of the Azeri and Iranian authorities is very important in consolidating and revitalizing the bilateral relations.

He also appreciated Raisi's positions on the sovereignty of the Baku government over the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan Republic.

President Aliyev stated that the exchange of diplomatic delegations between Iran and Azerbaijan indicates the exponential growth of relations and strengthens Tehran-Baku interaction.

The attempts by some foreign countries to disrupt the relations between the two countries have not yielded any results so far and will get nowhere in future, he stated.

For his part, President Raisi welcomed the development of relations between the two countries and emphasized Iran's support for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including Nagorno-Karabakh.

Raisi also expressed Iran’s readiness to provide technical and engineering services to Azerbaijan and participate in the reconstruction of the Karabakh region.

Expressing satisfaction with the agreement between Iran and Azerbaijan to resolve the problems of the region, Raisi reaffirmed Iran’s determination to complete the Aghband Route as soon as possible to connect the Republic of Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan, his official website reported.

“Despite the wishes of the enemies, the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan are expanding and the conspiracies of the ill-wishers of the two countries have failed,” he noted.

The relations between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan go beyond the political and neighborly ties and are based on the deep and unbreakable bonds between the two nations, Raisi underlined.

In the meeting, the two presidents also agreed that the security of the region would be ensured only through intra-regional cooperation and described any interference from the West as detrimental to the countries of the region.
