Iran, Russia Sign Deal to Counter UCMs

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Russia signed an agreement on countermeasures against unilateral coercive measures (UCMs).

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov signed the agreement on the sidelines of a meeting of the foreign ministers of the five Caspian countries, held in Moscow on Tuesday.

In the gathering, the two senior diplomats also talked about the relations between Iran and Russia and the latest regional developments.

Lavrov described the bilateral agreement on countermeasures against unilateral coercive measures as a step in standing against the illegal sanctions imposed by the US and its allies which he criticized for replacing diplomacy with UCMs.

He also hailed Iran’s membership in BRICS, expressing Russia’s support for cooperation within the framework of the economic grouping.

Russia stresses the need for the increased activities of the North-South Corridor, Lavrov added.

For his part, Amirabdollahian said the meeting has provided an opportunity to review the past agreements signed by the presidents of the two countries.

He also praised the fruitful results of diplomatic interaction between the two states.
