Iran's Industry Minister Arrives in St. Petersburg to Ink FTA with EAEU

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Industry, Mine and Trade Minister Abbas Aliabadi arrived in St. Petersburg on Monday to take part in the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

He said inking a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will boost bilateral trade.

The agreement on the creation of a free trade zone between Iran and the EAEU is expected to be signed following the visit of Iran's industry minister to St. Petersburg, TASS reported.

The document will be signed by the representatives of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan as five members of the EAEU. 

The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will be held in St. Petersburg on December 25 with the participation of leaders of EAEU member states, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, the report added. 

The meeting is expected to focus on consideration of issues related to the union’s work and discussion of further integration.

The leaders plan to approve a number of major decisions and documents, including the declaration on further development of the Union through 2030 and the period until 2045.
