TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian professional snooker player Hossein Vafaei defeated Scott Donaldson 4-1 in his opening match in the Welsh Open.

The preliminary stage for the Welsh Open will run until Saturday at the Barnsley Metrodome.

The top 16 seeds, including reigning champion Robert Milkins and world champion Luca Brecel, have had their round-of-128 ties held over.

It will be the last opportunity to earn ranking points that will count towards qualification to the Players Championship.

Additionally, it marks the conclusion of the European Series in which the highest earner after eight counting events will receive a bonus worth £150,000.
