UN Lauds Iran’s Push for Yemen Peace
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The United Nations’ Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg commended Iran for its efforts to ensure security and stability in Yemen.
In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, held in Tehran on Saturday, the UN envoy praised Iran’s stances on Yemen and its determination to establish stability and security in the Arab country.
Briefing the Iranian minister on the UN’s plans to ensure peace and reduce tensions in Yemen, Grundberg stressed the need for the employment of intraregional capacities to address the root causes of regional crises.
For his part, Amirabdollahian said the US’ military approaches, the recent American and British strikes against Yemen, and Washington’s move to designate Ansarullah forces a terrorist group have further complicated the situation and hindered a political solution.
He also reaffirmed Iran’s constant support for sustainable peace and security in Yemen, stressing that the efforts at the establishment of stability and security across the region will serve the interests of all regional countries.
The top Iranian diplomat then condemned the US’ recent military strikes on Syria and Iraq as a continuation of Washington’s wrong and failed policy of resorting to force and militarism.
The US on Friday night launched air strikes against more than 85 targets in Syria and Iraq on what it alleged were establishments linked to Iran.
