Iran, Romania Emphasize Broadening Trade, Economic Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Officials from Iran and Romania stressed the need to expand their bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and economy after a 20-year hiatus.

The chairman of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) in a meeting with Ambassador of Romani to Iran Mirela-Carmen Grecu said the two countries enjoy high potential to increase the value of bilateral trade.

Samad Hassanzadeh noted that the two countries’ trade exchanges in 2022 stood at about €250 million which is very negligible since Iran and Romania have high capacities to broaden their economic relations.

The last edition of the Iran-Romania Joint Economic Cooperation Commission was held 20 years ago, he deplored, saying the commission is expected to hold a meeting in Tehran as soon as possible.

The Iran Chamber of Commerce will make its utmost effort to resume the commission for the development of trade and economic ties between the two countries, Hassanzadeh emphasized, Mehr news agency reported.

Hassanzadeh noted that Iran is equipped with the most modern technologies, especially in the fields of oil, gas, energy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and welcomes transferring its technical knowhow and knowledge to Romania.

The Romanian envoy, for her part, pointed to the key role of the private sectors in broadening the level of trade between the two countries.

Grecu referred to the long history of the trade relations between Iran and Romania and emphasized that the Romanian Embassy in Tehran will spare no effort to increase the level of trade ties between the two countries.

Romania attaches great importance to increasing the trade and economic relations with Iran, she underlined.
