Iran's Kerman Applies to Become D-8 Tourism Capital: Official
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department of Iran’s southern province of Kerman said the province has applied to become the tourism capital of the D-8 member countries.
Saeed Shahrokhi pointed to a meeting held between the governor general of Kerman province and the secretary general of the D-8 Group of developing countries on the sidelines of the 17th International Exhibition of Tourism and said it was agreed at the meeting that the necessary planning will be carried out by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after sending the proposed program and then, the result will be announced to Iran officially.
Kerman province can hold cultural weeks in the D-8 countries, he said, adding that the municipality of the city of Kerman can sign a sisterhood agreement with some cities of the D-8 countries.
Universities and academic and scientific centers can also establish scientific relationships with the scientific centers of the eight developing nations, he emphasized, Mehr news agency reported.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Shahrokhi pointed to the promotion of the tourism infrastructures of the province using the high capacities of the technical services of these countries and noted that expert-level meetings can be organized to attract investors and implement tourism projects.
The application for designating Kerman province as the tourism capital of the D-8 countries within the framework of the tourism operational plan of the province entitled "Kerman 1404" has been forwarded by the governor of Kerman to the provincial Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department, he noted.
The 17th International Tourism Industries Exhibition 2024 was held at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on February 12-15.
