Constitutional Council Confirms Iran Elections Results
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Constitutional Council has approved the results of the recent parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections across the country, the spokesman for the council said.
Speaking to the state TV on Monday night, Hadi Tahan Nazif said the Constitutional Council has confirmed the correctness and validity of elections in 208 polling areas for the parliamentary elections and in all of polling areas of the Assembly of Experts voting in 31 provinces across the country.
He also noted that the run-off parliamentary elections will be held on May 10.
The countrywide elections for the Parliament and the Assembly of Experts were held on March 1.
Around 61 million Iranian people were eligible to vote, including 3.5 million first-time voters.
The elections were held in around 60,000 polling stations across Iran.
There are currently 290 seats in the Iranian Parliament, known as Majlis, elected by direct vote of people in nationwide elections for four years.
The Assembly of Experts is a high-ranking body that elects and oversees the activities of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Members of the assembly are directly elected to office by people for an eight-year term. It holds biannual meetings to appoint a new chairman.
