Iran Not Looking for Tension: Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry gave an assurance that Tehran is not seeking an escalation of tensions in the region after its retaliatory operation against the Israeli regime’s military targets in the occupied territories.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Nasser Kanaani emphasized that Iran is not looking for the escalation of tensions in the region.
He described the ‘Operation True Promise’ that the Iranian military forces carried out early Sunday in retaliation for the Israeli airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus as a “necessary and proportional” punitive mission that has hit only military targets.
“While it remains committed to the United Nations Charter, Iran will act more strongly in every stage in response to its red lines being crossed in order to create prevention and punish the aggressor,” he stated.
Kanaani noted that Iran has acted to defend its national security and interests considering the UN Security Council’s inaction on the Israeli regime’s violation of the Iranian embassy in Damascus and after the irresponsible behavior of the US, the UK and France.
He reiterated that Iran’s retaliatory operation against Israel was absolutely legitimate and in conformity with the UN Charter that was carried out after an ultimatum issued in a diplomatic manner.
The spokesman advised the US to take account of Iran’s responsible conduct and legitimate reaction to the Israeli act of aggression and to be grateful for Iran’s logical and legitimate operation instead of adopting an irresponsible stance.
In the early hours of Sunday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Aerospace Force launched tens of missiles and drones in retaliation for the Israeli regime’s April 1 airstrike that killed seven Iranian military commanders and advisers in Syria.
The IRGC commander said authentic reports about the Iranian missiles that have hit the Israeli targets indicate that the retaliatory operation has been considerably more successful than expected.
