Iran’s Export of Agricultural Products Up 22% in One Year

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The director general of the foreign trade promotion of Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture said the country’s export of agricultural products registered a 22% hike in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 19, 2024) compared to a year earlier.

Meysam Jahedi said that the country’s export of food and agricultural products showed a 13.4 percent growth in weight compared to last year’s corresponding period.

He went on say that exports of food and agricultural products rose from about 7.765 million tons to 8.806 million tons in the last Iranian calendar year.

Jahedi stated that about 776,000 tons of watermelons, 755,000 tons of apples and 473,000 tons of tomatoes were exported from the country last year, IRNA reported.

The official added that Iraq, the UAE, Russia and Afghanistan were Iran’s major export target markets in this period.

The main policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to meeting the domestic demand, is to pursue export-based production, he added.
