Iran, FAO Sign Agreement on A Joint Project for Producing Saffron

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The office of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Iran and the Ministry of Agriculture inked an agreement on a joint project in the field of producing saffron aimed at ensuring the authenticity of food and managing food supply chain.

This project entitled “Control of Food Authenticity and Management of Food Supply Chain to Attain Goals of Sustainable Development Successfully” is in accordance with the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation and objectives of the sustainable development and also FAO Country Programming Framework.

This comprehensive two-year project is a part of FAO’s technical cooperation program that ends in December 2025.

Ensuring the access of consumers to safe and authentic saffron products through increasing the capacity for effective executive mechanisms to test the quality of food are among the goals of this project.

This project is an important step in line with increasing the transparency and traceability in the saffron industry which will contribute to food security and achieve the objectives of sustainable development, Mehr news agency reported.

In addition, this project is an example of FAO’s commitment to strengthening sustainable food and agricultural systems.
