Nearly 6 Million Foreign Tourists Visited Iran in 2023, UNWTO Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in its latest report revealed a considerable growth in the arrival of foreign tourists in Iran last year, saying that about six million foreign tourists visited the country in 2023.

The arrival of the foreign tourists in Iran in 2023 registered a 43% growth compared to a year earlier, the international body reported.

Last year, 5.9 million foreign tourists visited Iran, while 4.1 million foreign tourists had visited the country in 2022, the report added.

The 43% increase in foreign tourist arrivals in 2023 came just a year after Iran’s tourism industry was revived following the easing of the global coronavirus pandemic.

The international body put the number of foreign tourists who visited Iran in 2021 at 880,000.

With the rise in the arrival of foreign tourists, Iran’s rank has significantly improved in the world in this respect.

While Iran stood in the 40th place in the world in terms of the number of foreign tourists in 2022, it rose to 34th place in 2023.

Accordingly, only 33 countries in the world attracted more foreign tourists than Iran in 2023.

France ranked first in the world by attracting 100 million foreign tourists, followed by Spain and the United States.
