1.4 Million Foreign Tourists Visit Iran in Three-Month Period: WTO


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Some 1.4 million foreign tourists visited Iran in the first three months of 2024, registering a 60 percent growth compared to last year’s corresponding period, according to the World Tourism Organization (WTO).

The international tourism body in its latest report revealed the continuation of the ascending trend of arrival of foreign tourists in Iran in 2024.

According to the statistics, Iran experienced a considerable 43 percent growth in attraction of foreign tourists in 2023.

The country witnessed a significant 60 percent growth in the arrival of foreign tourists from January to March 2024 compared to the same period last year.

Some 1.398 million foreign tourists visited Iran in the first three months of 2024.

Accordingly, 872,000 foreign tourists visited Iran in the first three months of 2023 (January to March).

Some 495,000, 506,000 and 397,000 foreign tourists visited Iran in January, February and March 2024 respectively.

More than 5 and 4 million foreign tourists visited Iran in 2023 and 2022 respectively, the report added.

Effective measures taken in the administration of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi including facilitation of issuance of visas and waiving visa for nationals of 33 countries have led to a boom in Iran’s tourism industry, the WTO added.
