President-Elect Vows to Strengthen Iran’s Ties with Pakistan
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President-Elect Masoud Pezeshkian described the expansion of relations with Pakistan as an indisputable policy of Tehran, pledging that his administration will work with Islamabad on various issues and implement the previous bilateral agreements.
In a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, Pezeshkian said the enhancement of relations with Pakistan is an unchanging principle of Iran’s foreign policy, referring to the special significance that Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei attaches to closer interaction with Pakistan.
The president-elect noted that the age-old relations between the two major states of the Muslim world are founded upon deep-rooted cultural, religious and civilizational bonds.
Stressing the need to employ the unexplored capacities for mutual cooperation to serve the interests of the two nations, Pezeshkian expressed his forthcoming administration’s readiness to carry out the political, economic and security agreements that Iran and Pakistan have signed in the past.
For his part, Sharif congratulated Pezeshkian on winning the presidential election, describing the trouble-free transition of power in Iran as a sign of its robust foundations on the basis of democracy.
He also emphasized the necessity of protecting the stability and security of the common border, calling for closer cooperation between the two neighbors in the fight against terrorism.
Pezeshkian, a physician-turned-politician, won the Iranian presidential runoff election on July 5 by winning 53.66% of the votes.
His new administration, the 14th one after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, will hold office for four years.
