Iran Hits Back at NATO for Fueling Ukraine War

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry refuted the allegations of providing military aid to Russia, made at a summit of NATO in the US, attributing the Ukraine crisis to NATO’s provocative policies.

In a statement released on Thursday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani rejected the sections of a declaration issued by the heads of state participating in a recent meeting of the North Atlantic Council in Washington, DC, which have accused Iran of providing military aid to Russia in the Ukraine war.

The spokesman dismissed the allegations as “totally baseless and unfounded with political purposes”.

“Sadly, what we see in Ukraine is the result of NATO’s provocative policies and measures, led by the US, which are still ongoing,” Kanaani said.

He reiterated that any attempt to link the Ukraine war with the cooperation between Iran and Russia would be a measure with absolutely “biased political purposes” with the aim of legitimizing the Western interference in and continued arms support for Ukraine.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategy has always entailed efforts to play a constructive and stabilizing role in the course of establishment of sustainable security in the region and the world,” he added, emphasizing that Iran has never provided Russia with any drone for the war in Ukraine.

Iran insists on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis and the establishment of lasting peace, Kanaani concluded.
