205 UN Humanitarian Workers Killed in Gaza since October, UNRWA Reports

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) reported on Friday that 205 humanitarian aid workers have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza since October 7.

In a statement, the UN agency revealed that the ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza have led to significant "civilian casualties, displacement of people, and the destruction of residential structures and public infrastructure."

"As of August 7, the total number of UNRWA colleagues killed since October 7 stands at 205," the agency stated.

The agency also highlighted that up to 1.9 million people, or approximately 90% of the population across the Gaza Strip, are internally displaced, with some individuals being displaced as many as ten times.

According to the agency, the health system in Gaza remains "barely functional," with 90 hospitals and primary health care centers no longer operational.

Despite the dire circumstances, UNRWA continues to play a critical role in the health sector, providing services through 10 primary health centers and up to 100 mobile medical points across Gaza.

Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist army has maintained a relentless military offensive in the Gaza Strip, defying a United Nations Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

Local health authorities report that nearly 39,700 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, and over 91,700 injured.

Over 10 months into the brutal war, Gaza has been left in ruins, exacerbated by a severe blockade restricting access to food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice, which has ordered the country to immediately halt its military operation in Rafah, where more than 1 million Palestinians had sought refuge before the city was invaded on May 6.
