Taekwondo: Iran’s Salimi Takes Gold in 2024 Olympics


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Arian Salimi of Iran won a gold medal in the men's +80kg taekwondo of the 2024 Olympic Games Saturday night.

Salimi defeated Britain's Caden Cunningham 2-1 to win Iran’s third gold medal in the Games.

Greco-Roman wrestlers Mohammad Hadi Saravi and Saeid Esmaeili had won two gold medals.

Bronzes went to Rafael Alba of Cuba and Cheick Sallah Cissé of Côte d'Ivoire.

Iranian female taekwondo athletes Nahid Kiani in the -57kg and Mobina Nematzadeh in the -49kg had earlier won a silver and a bronze medal, respectively.

Mehran Barkhordari had also won a silver medal in the men's -80kg.
