President Warns of Adverse Outcome of Pressure on Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran favors peace and friendship and seeks to avoid tensions, but pressures and sanctions imposed by outsiders may force the country to choose a different course, President Masoud Pezeshkian said.

In a telephone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on Wednesday, Pezeshkian said Iran is eager to broaden ties with Norway.

He also expressed hope that dialogue between Tehran and Oslo would strengthen their relations and help achieve solutions for the establishment of peace and stability in the world.

“While the Islamic Republic of Iran always tries to promote peace and friendship, it condemns any act of aggression at any location and is prepared for cooperation to stop wars, violence and insecurity in the world,” the president added.

Restating Iran’s policy of push for peace and friendship, avoidance of tensions and clashes, and support for interaction with all countries, the president noted that Tehran’s attitude and behavior will change if it is forced to do anything under the pressure of sanctions.

He also denounced the double standards of the US and certain Western governments on human rights and democracy, saying the Westerners accuse the other countries of violation of human rights while they have remained silent on the Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.

Pezeshkian also praised Norway’s support for the people of Palestine, calling on the Norwegian prime minister to step up interaction with the European states to push for an immediate end to the Zionist regime’s atrocities in Gaza.

For his part, the Norwegian premier hailed the age-old and friendly ties with Iran.

He also voiced concern about the escalation of regional tensions in the wake of the Israeli regime’s onslaught on Gaza.

Norway, along with Ireland and Spain, was among the first European countries that recognized Palestine as an independent state, the premier noted, expressing hope for an end to the bitter incidents in Gaza.

At least 40,602 Palestinian people have been killed and 93,855 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 2023.
