Iran, Bahrain Aiming to Bolster Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Bahrain weighed plans to strengthen relations between the two neighbors through political talks.

In a telephone conversation on Thursday, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani congratulated his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi on taking office.

Highlighting the significance of relations between Manama and Tehran, the top Bahraini diplomat expressed hope for the enhancement of political dialogue between the two nations.

For his part, Foreign Minister Araqchi thanked Al Zayani for his participation in the Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony in Tehran.

Araqchi also described the expansion of relations with the neighbors within the framework of good neighborliness as a top priority in the Iranian administration’s agenda.

The two senior diplomats further called for the continuation of negotiations between Tehran and Manama and the constant exchange of views according to the previous agreements.

In March 2023, reports came out about talks between Iran and Bahrain on the restoration of bilateral relations.

The Bahraini government had severed its diplomatic relations with Iran in January 2016 after a same decision by Saudi Arabia.

The rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, mediated by China in March 2023, resulted in subsequent talks between Tehran and Manama on the reopening of embassies.
