Iran, Iraq Ink 14 MoUs during Presidential Visit
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Iraq signed 14 memoranda of understanding on cooperation in various fields during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Baghdad.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani in Baghdad on Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian hailed the fruitful meetings with Iraqi officials during his first official foreign trip.
He noted that the 14 documents signed on Wednesday have marked the beginning of closer cooperation between the two neighbors.
“We have discussed the geopolitical conditions of the two countries. The two states are the connecting point between Europe and Asia,” Pezeshkian added.
The president also stressed the need to implement the security agreements between the two countries in order to fight against terrorism and the enemies who have targeted regional security and stability.
He also unveiled plans to form specialized committees to carry out the bilateral agreements.
During his three-day stay in Iraq, Pezeshkian is expected to visit the holy Shiite shrines in Karbala and Najaf and pay visits to Basra and Erbil as well.
The Iranian president has described cooperation for regional development as the guiding principle of his administration’s foreign policy.
