Ballistic Missile from Yemen Strikes Deep inside Occupied Palestine After Interception Fails
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A ballistic missile launched from Yemen targeted central Israel, evading multiple interception attempts by the Iron Dome system and causing fires near Route 1 highway and damage in surrounding areas, Israeli military sources said.
The missile landed close to the Route 1 highway southeast of Tel Aviv, near the Gezer power plant.
According to local media, numerous interception attempts were unsuccessful, with some Iron Dome missiles crashing and igniting fires at various locations.
Videos and photos shared online depicted smoke rising from scrubland near the highway, and a picture showed damage to an escalator at a train station in the Modiin area, located 25 kilometers east of Tel Aviv.
Israeli settlers were seen running for cover, and at least five individuals were reported injured during the rush to safety.
Initially, the Israeli military issued a statement saying that a surface-to-surface missile from the eastern direction triggered sirens in Tel Aviv and surrounding areas, impacting an open space with no reported injuries.
“A surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing into central Israel from the East and fell in an open area. No injuries were reported," the statement said. "The missile was fired from Yemen."
The Israeli military also acknowledged that the ballistic missile managed to evade several layers of air defense and was not detected by sirens until it reached central Israel, despite expectations that it would be identified earlier.
Yemeni sources, speaking to Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network, dismissed the Israeli version of events, stating that the Israeli account of any Yemeni military operations "cannot be relied upon."
