China, India Keen to Invest in Iran: Economy Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance (MEAF) said two great economic powers in the world i.e. China and India have pledged to invest in Iran.

After holding talks with the finance ministers of the two economic powers, Abdolreza Hemmati said that these two countries showed their interest in investing in Iran.

In a post on his X account, formerly known as Twitter, the Iranian finance minister wrote that he had a good and constructive meeting with the finance ministers of China and India, the two great economies of the East, on the sidelines of the meeting of ministers of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

He went on to say that the second and fifth economic powers of the world both emphasized the keenness of their respective governments to develop economic cooperation and interaction with Iran and invest in the country.

The AIIB is a multilateral development bank that aims to enhance economic and social outcomes across Asia. It is currently the world's second-largest multilateral development institution.

Headquartered in Beijing, the bank has 109 members, including 13 prospective members from around the globe. Its mission centers on financing infrastructure projects that promote sustainable development.

The Islamic Republic of Iran became a member of the AIIB in 2015 after purchasing shares in the bank.
