Araqchi Asks OIC to Hold Emergency Meeting after Assassination of Nasrallah
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation following the martyrdom of Hezbollah leader Seyed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike in Beirut.
The top Iranian diplomat proposed the idea in a meeting with the OIC’s Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha in New York on Saturday.
Araqchi underlined that Muslim countries have a duty regarding the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Palestine and Lebanon.
He referred to the brutal and inhumane Israeli crimes in Gaza and Lebanon, saying the Friday’s attack by Israel against the crowded areas of Beirut with large bunker buster bombs was a clear example of crime against humanity.
Unfortunately, institutions such as the UN Security Council, lack the necessary will to confront and stop the crimes of the Zionist regime while the US also provides all-out political and military support to the regime, he added, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
Araqchi underscored the responsibility of the Islamic countries, especially the OIC, and called for an urgent meeting of the OIC heads of state.
This is not the first time that Hezbollah loses a brave leader, and surely the path of resistance will continue more strongly than before, he added.
For his part, Brahim Taha decried the continuation of the Israeli regime's acts of aggression and crimes in the region.
He highlighted the seriousness of the situation, saying he had held urgent consultations with the member states of the OIC regarding an emergency meeting and that he will take appropriate measure in this respect.
