Iran, Egypt Call for Diplomatic Solutions amid Rising Regional Insecurity
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araqchi visited Cairo on Thursday to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, seeking to rally regional countries for a joint diplomatic response to ongoing Israeli violence in Gaza and Lebanon.
Araqchi, who traveled to Cairo as part of ongoing diplomatic consultations, aimed to mobilize regional countries to prevent further insecurity driven by the Israeli genocidal war in the occupied Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
During Araqchi’s meeting with the Egyptian president, the two sides reviewed the current regional situation, expressing deep concern over the continued Israeli attacks and atrocities in Palestine and Lebanon.
Araghchi conveyed greetings from Iran’s president and outlined the country’s position on the deteriorating security situation.
He highlighted Iran's consultations with regional and some extra-regional actors over the past two weeks, stressing the urgency of using diplomatic channels to halt the Israeli atrocities and provide immediate humanitarian aid to Palestinian and Lebanese refugees.
El-Sisi, in turn, sent his greetings to Iran's president and shared Egypt's stance and concerns regarding the situation.
Describing the current security situation as alarming, El-Sisi stressed the need to prevent further escalation.
He called for the deployment of all available resources to stop the aggression and violence in Gaza and Lebanon, to avoid dragging the region into a potentially catastrophic war, to uphold the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all countries, and to safeguard regional stability and security.
Both sides also agreed to continue consultations and maintain the momentum of ongoing talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, acknowledging recent positive developments.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) following the meeting, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei described the talks as productive.
"This morning, FM Araqchi had very useful conversations with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on the latest regional developments," Baqaei wrote.
He added, "The urgent need to stop aggressions and atrocities in Gaza and Lebanon, prevent dangerous escalations that could drag the whole region into an all-out war with dire consequences for all, and provide humanitarian relief to refugees were stressed."
Araghchi’s trip to Cairo follows a visit to Jordan on Wednesday, where he held talks with King Abdullah II and other officials to discuss similar regional concerns.
The Iranian minister arrived in Egypt on Wednesday night and continued discussions Thursday morning with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty.
