Esteghlal Moves Down to 14th Place in IPL 16-Team Table

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal, one of the most decorated football teams in Iran, has moved down to the 14th place in the country’s 16-team league table.

For the fans, is unbelievable to see their favorite teams in the position. The team has won the Iran Professional League five times.

The poor managers are the main reason and there are other issues for the team’s failure, fans believe.

The Blues, headed by Javad Nekounam, could have won the title last season but the conflict cost them the championship.

Now, the team struggles to get itself out of this chaotic situation.

Esteghlal's newly-appointed coach Pitso Mosimane has not started his reign as anticipated. He fell 3-1 against Kheybar Khorramabad before another 2-0 defeat to Tractor on Thursday.

This season, Esteghlal has lost five league games, and managed just two wins and as many losses which has put the team 14th in the table.

It is an unwanted run from the two-time AFC Champions League winner which explains why the fans are concerned.

Esteghlal has traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to face Asia giant Al Hilal in the 2024-25 AFC Champions League Elite. The result against Al Hilal will be the decider for the team in the future.

However, in his statement to the supporters, the club's boss Dr. Farshid Samiiei has exuded confidence the team will start delivering soon.
