Protests Erupt across US in Response to Trump’s Re-Election

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Thousands of demonstrators rallied in major US cities on Saturday, protesting former President Donald Trump’s re-election amid concerns over immigration policies and Israel’s war on Gaza.

Protests took place on both coasts, with participants voicing frustration over Trump’s return to office and his stance on key social issues.

In New York City, demonstrators gathered outside Trump International Hotel on 5th Avenue, holding signs that read, “We protect us” and “Mr. President, how long must women wait for liberty?”

Advocacy groups focused on workers’ and immigrant rights, while chants like “Here we are and we’re not leaving!” echoed through the streets.

Similar demonstrations unfolded in Washington, D.C., where Women’s March participants protested outside the Heritage Foundation, a right-wing think tank behind Project 2025. Social media photos showed signs saying, “Well-behaved women don’t make history” and “You are never alone.” Protesters also chanted, “We believe that we will win!”

In Seattle, large crowds gathered near the Space Needle, with posters calling to “protest Trump and the two-party war machine.” Speaking to a rain-soaked crowd, one demonstrator said, “Any president that has come to power has also let workers down,” referencing frustrations over ongoing social struggles. Some attendees wore keffiyehs in solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s war on Gaza.

Portland, Oregon, saw similar protests on Friday outside City Hall. Demonstrators held signs with messages like “Fight fascism” and “Turn fear into fight.” Cody Urban, a chair for the US chapter of the International League of People’s Struggle, told KGW, “We’ve been fighting for years for health, housing, and education. Whether it was Trump or Biden, we haven’t been getting it, and we want to push for real change.”

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, dozens gathered in Point State Park, carrying signs that read, “We are not going back”. Steve Capri, an organizer with Socialist Alternative, told WPXI TV, “We’re afraid of what’s coming, but we’re not going to back down. Trump is an attack on all of us, so we need to unite, get organized, join movements, and learn together.”
