Yemen Strikes Israeli City of Eilat in Drone Operation
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Yemen’s Armed Forces launched a drone strike on Eilat, a city in the southernmost region of the occupied Palestinian territories, in an operation targeting a vital Israeli position, according to a military spokesman.
Yemeni Armed Forces Spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree in a video statement on Saturday confirmed that the operation involved a squadron of unmanned aerial vehicles, which successfully "reached its target."
The military spokesman stated the attack was conducted "in support of the oppressed people of Palestine and Lebanon, and in support of the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance."
This marks part of a series of operations by Yemeni forces against Israeli targets, aimed at responding to Israel's ongoing genocidal war in Gaza and its deadly escalation against Lebanon.
The brutal military onslaught since October 2023, has resulted in the deaths of over 43,700 Palestinians, primarily women and children, and more than 3,360 Lebanese, according to reports.
In addition to targeting Israeli territory, Yemeni forces have focused on Israeli ships and vessels traveling to and from the occupied territories, seeking to impose economic pressure on the regime.
Earlier this week, Bill LaPlante, the Pentagon’s top acquisition official, expressed surprise at Yemen's military capabilities.
“I’ve been shocked by the quality and extent of their operations," LaPlante said, noting that Yemeni forces possess sophisticated weapons, including advanced missiles capable of "amazing" feats.
Brigadier General Saree reiterated Yemen’s determination to continue its operations, emphasizing that the strikes would persist "until the aggression stops, the siege on Gaza is lifted, and the aggression against Lebanon ends."
